Welcome to Cathedral High School,
HOME OF THE FIGHTING IRISH!
Cathedral High School is proud to carry on the traditions
from our founders, the Holy Cross Brothers of Notre Dame. Since her doors opened 92 years ago,
Cathedral High School has graduated outstanding young men and women on their
way to being successful college students and adult members of their
communities. We are a four-year
Catholic, private, coeducational, college preparatory high school located in
Indianapolis, Indiana. The school
is accredited by the Independent School Association of the Central States, the
North Central Association, and the State of Indiana. In 2004, Cathedral High School was selected by Today’s Catholic Teacher Magazine as an Innovator in Education in
the area of Promoting Catholic Identity.
In the same year, Cathedral was selected as a No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon School by the United States
Department of Education.
Enrollment is 1250 students for the 2010-2011 ac
ademic school year. Cathedral High School is the largest
private high school in the state.
We are dedicated to serving our diverse student body and
their families by providing an education grounded in the Catholic
tradition. We want our graduates to
become productive members of the greater community with the Christian call to
know, to defend, and to carry on their faith
The core curriculum is academically challenging and is
designed to help students prepare for rigorous post-secondary pursuits. Beyond the classroom, students at
Cathedral are never at a loss for something to do. More than 80 co-curricular activities, ranging from
community service clubs to foreign language clubs are available. Concerts, theatrical productions and
countless special events occur throughout the year. We graduated our first International Baccalaureate (IB)
students in 2008.
Our students are very successful; approximately 99% of each
graduating class immediately goes on to colleges/universities. Cathedral consistently ranks in the 95th percentile or above in Indiana’s standardized testing and we have one of
the most competitive sports programs in Indiana.
The picturesque 39-acre campus, completely surrounded by
beautiful rolling hills and wooded terrain, includes the two-story brick school
building, a separate academic building, student life center, fine arts center,
performing arts center, and outstanding athletic facilities.
Cathedral High School has a warm and friendly
atmosphere. This special quality
stems from our long tradition, family oriented environment and highly qualified
faculty. The tireless effort of
our faculty is easily seen by their availability to the students. It is a place where everyone is treated
with respect.
I have been principal of Cathedral High School since June,
2002, and I am thrilled to be here.
I remain very impressed with the caliber of this faculty and staff and
with the commitment of the personnel towards Cathedral youth. The feedback which we receive
consistently as our students enter colleges throughout the country is that they
are well-prepared to continue their education even in prestigious schools. I am a product of the Catholic school
system of Lafayette, Indiana, and I have taught and have been an administrator
in Catholic schools almost all of my adult life. My most recent experience, prior to Cathedral, was serving
as principal of Lafayette Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School in
Lafayette, Indiana, from 1990 until coming to Cathedral in 2002.
My wife Janet and I have been married for 26 years and have
three Cathedral graduates, Lance (’05), currently in the second year of law
school at IU Indy; Courtney (’06), a recent Indiana University graduate who is
working in marketing, and Sean (’09), who completed his freshman at Purdue
University, but who has transferred to IU Bloomington for his sophomore year. My family and I have been most
impressed with the quality of a Cathedral High School education as an extension
of our family life for the educational, social, and continuing moral
development of our children.
I hope the information on this page has helped you to become
familiar with our fine school and with me. I am extremely proud of our students, parents, faculty,
staff and administrators. I am
confident in claiming that we are “a school that makes a difference!”
Blessings,

David L. Worland
