Cathedral High School is a private Catholic college-preparatory school affiliated with the Brothers of Holy Cross. Founded in 1918, it is one of the oldest and largest Catholic high schools in the state of Indiana and has a student body of nearly 1300 in grades 9 to 12.

Educational Data Analyst

SUMMARY:

The Data Analyst reports to the Vice Principal of Curriculum and Research and oversees all aspects of student-driven data management for Cathedral High School. This position is responsible for the management, analysis and dissemination of data for the school’s students, teachers, parents, and administration utilizing the most current technology available.  Employee is responsible for assisting with data collection from all kinds of resources, statistical analysis, and reporting; responding to data requests and questions from Administration and School staff.  This position functions as a liaison for informational requests within the department and from other departments. This position utilizes various databases to perform the work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists with data collection from all kinds of resources, statistical analysis, and reporting; responding to data requests and questions from Administration and School staff; and assisting the department on project work. 
  • Create and/or manage data stores to house extracted data from a variety of sources.
  • Collect, compile, analyze, and report data (e.g., enrollment information, course grades, internal and external test data, etc…)
  • Work closely with Vice Principal of Research and Curriculum to identify academic needs regarding data collection, management, and storage to allow for analysis to lead to data driven decisions.
  • Is a member of the school data team to develop protocols to ensure data accuracy and integration with internal applications.
  • Implements and manages best practices for data at Cathedral High School in regards to students, teachers, and parents. Updates and maintains policy and procedure manuals. Establishes and maintains reporting guidelines.
  • Develops timelines for project implementation, including resources needed. 
  • Works collaboratively on common data projects with other departments, including integration of all business and academic applications.
  • Supports the Office of Enrollment Management with a specific emphasis on the tuition assistance process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in computer science, education or related field; one or two year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Incumbent must have must have at least one (1) year of information systems experience and experience with databases.  High proficiency in Excel-based data manipulation required; comfort with relational database modeling, architectures, and analysis required; familiarity with database management and SQL a plus.  Prior experience with data visualization and reporting in business intelligence platforms such as Qlikview, Tableau, and SPSS requested.  Prior experience developing data strategy and solving data challenges in the specific context of K-12 schools a major plus; relevant experience in any environment requiring government/funder compliance reporting a plus.  Proven interpersonal communications skills and project management skills are required. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A knowledge of the following databases is desired, but not required:  Power School, Blackbaud’s Education Edge and Raiser's Edge application suites.  Specifically a knowledge of how to transfer information between the databases through imports and exports, is essential.
