How is it different from community service? 
Service learning is a teaching method embedded into a course of study; education of students is always at the core of service learning. 

How do students benefit from service learning? 
Research shows that service learning positively affects youth in three general areas:  academic engagement and achievement, civic attitudes and behaviors, and social and personal skills.

Is there a role for parents with the service learning program here at Cathedral? 
Absolutely!  Parents can inform school administrators, teachers and other parents about the benefits of service learning.  They can promote awareness by placing service learning on parent meeting agendas.  They can assist teachers and students showcase service learning at Cathedral’s Open House and other school events.  Parents can support their child’s involvement in course based service learning at Cathedral.
