Tuition and Tuition Assistance

Tuition & Fees

Cathedral High School is committed to providing a superior education at an affordable price. The Cathedral Board of Directors establishes an annual tuition, which represents only a portion of the cost of educating each student. Tuition for the 2009-10 school year is $10,390, and there is a student activity fee of $300.

Additional Expenses

In addition to tuition and the activity fee, students and families are responsible for items such as books (approximately $400-$500), lunch ($3-$4 per day if purchased at Cathedral), class fees as appropriate, and other miscellaneous co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

Need-Based Tuition Assistance

Each year through the generosity of alumni, parents, students and friends, Cathedral is able to offer tuition assistance to students who might not otherwise be able to afford private education. Families may apply for tuition assistance through School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS) by completing a Parent Financial Statement (application for financial assistance) by February 28, 2010.  Families applying for assistance must also submit a copy of their 2009 federal tax returns (including all schedules), as well as 2009 W-2’s.  Beginning Nov. 15, 2009, applications for assistance are available in the Cathedral Enrollment Management Office, or families may apply online to SSS at www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.

For the 2009-2010 school year, Cathedral awarded approximately $2.3 million in tuition assistance to more than one-third of our families. If you are hesitating to consider Cathedral for financial reasons, we strongly encourage you to apply for tuition assistance, as this process has made Cathedral a reality for many of our families.

Merit Scholarship

Cathedral offers one merit scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship . Eighth grade students scoring in the 96th - 99th national percentile (composite) on the STS High School Placement Test are eligible to be Presidential Scholars. Presidential Scholars will earn $2500 toward tuition, renewable each year for a total of $10,000.

Presidential Scholars receive priority consideration for admission to Cathedral, provided they have completed all requirements for application for admission and provided they are in good academic and behavioral standing in their schools.

With approval of the Cathedral Enrollment Management Office, students may submit a composite High School Placement Test score from a second test sitting for consideration of Presidential Scholarship eligibility. No more than two composite scores (no more than one re-test) will be accepted for consideration for the Presidential Scholarship.

Cathedral will accept High School Placement Test scores for tests taken at other high schools. Only scores for High School Placement Tests taken prior to February 1, 2010 will be considered for the Presidential Scholarship.
