iPad 1:1 Program
iPads are an educational transformation tool that allows teachers to differentiate instruction and gives students the creative freedom to explore learning in new and exciting ways.
Education is no longer limited to an environment of walls where a teacher lectures in front of the classroom. Students need tools that will help them learn, create, communicate, establish good time management. The iPad is that tool for Cathedral High School.
Digital Education
Cathedral uses digital books from Apple's iBooks and other online publishes such as Pearson Learning. As more books and resources become available, we will be flexible to enhance our curriculum.
Wireless Campus and High Speed Network
Our wireless is an open and secure campus. Students and teachers have their own secure wireless network while public patrons can connect to our CHSPublic network.
Our Internet lines are 100MB fiber through Zayo Services, a Tier 1 Internet carrier. In 2013-2014, our goal is to have a 1GB connection to the Internet.
As a Cathedral student, they receive:
- Cathedral Gmail account for email and online storage
- Powerschool account to access their grades online
- 2013-2014 - ID card for door entry and secure printing
- Mealtime account for lunch
- Mobile Iron management for their iPad - helps deliver apps and books
Recommended Equipment for Class of 2017
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
- iPad2 or newer
- iOS 5 operating system or higher (2013-2014 - iOS6 will be required)
We accept any iPad2 or greater, and do not encourage the iPad mini for its screen size
Please note: Any altered equipment, sometimes referred to as “jailbreak” equipment, will not be allowed for use on campus as the device/software is not supported by Apple. Jailbroken iPads will be reset and management software will be reinstalled.
TEXTBOOKS, OTHER TOOLS
Electronic textbooks: We’re working with textbook publishers to find appropriate e-Books, as well as availing ourselves of other classroom resources available through the thousands of educational apps that have already been developed. Here’s just a snapshot of four books used by incoming freshmen, and the costs if purchasing those books new:
| Subject |

Other required resources that are available through free apps include:
• Many summer reading titles
• Graphing calculators
• Merriam Webster Dictionary
• Student Bible
• Many world language dictionaries
Cathedral is working with our suppliers to identify as many textbooks as possible that can be utilized in an electronic format. To that end, the Book Swap will occur later in the spring in the hopes that many books will be available for use on students’ iPads. Additionally, families will no longer pay Computer Programming, Modern Technology or Web Design fees which totaled $130, and will instead pay an annual $75 technology fee that includes $15 worth of iPad apps.
