Prayer for the month of December

A Band Director's Prayer for Her Students

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the opportunity to teach today.
Please help my students to learn more than just music; help them learn how to think and concentrate, and to do their best.
Help them learn the value of hard work, self-discipline, respect for self, respect for others, and respect for authority.
May they learn to be organized and responsible, and to take responsibility for their actions.
Help them learn to set goals and then do what is needed to achieve those goals. Along the way I pray they will learn how to work together, and to be considerate, encouraging, patient, and kind.
And when they achieve their goals I pray they will know the joy of learning and the pride that comes from a job well done.
In all of this I pray my students will learn they are capable of doing much more than they ever thought possible.
And most of all, Lord, I pray that you will show them how immeasurably valuable each of them is to you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Prayer for the month of November

Prayer to St. Cecilia

Dear St. Cecilia, one thing we know for certain about you is that you became a heroic martyr in fidelity to your divine Bridegroom. We do not know that you were a musician, but we are told that you heard Angels sing.

Inspire musicians to gladden the hearts of people by filling the air with God's gift of music and reminding them of the divine Musician who created all beauty. Amen.

Prayer for the month of October

Colorguard Prayer

When the music starts and we stand proud and true

Please. Oh, Lord!

Let the judges like what we do.

May I stay in rhythm, let me not lose my count,

for I dread they will point me out.

This I will know is not so bad,

but the looks from my instructor could kill my dad.

I ask not for myself, but for the whole.

Let us march in straight lines,

and not on our toes.

May my hands be true.

Even though they're black and blue.

It's the price we must pay,

for the tosses that get away.

Protect me. Oh, Lord!

from you know who: they couldn't catch a cold,

you know this is true.

When the show is almost over

and the fans are on their feet,

Keep me smiling that smile

even though I cannot breathe!

Amen

Prayer for the month of September

A Drum Major's Prayer

May I always be ready to take the field

To conduct myself smoothly and keep my eyes pealed.

To forget sweaty palms and a fast beating heart

And to wait and salute for the music to start.

Let me always remember when phrases repeat

To conduct to the music, and not just the beat.

Let me cue with authority, passion and pride

To remember beat patterns when I subdivide.

May I never give in to my nerves or self-doubt

And to always remember what music's about.

Let me never be hesitant taking a chance

And to make opportunities partners of dance.

Let me never be scared to be someone who cares

And to give of myself more than anyone dares.

Let me always remember I'm leading the band

I'm the person who risks, the one who takes the stand.

And should I lose my focus and make a mistake

Let me quickly recover and learn in its wake.

Should I ever forget that it's not about me

And lose sight of the fact that teamwork starts with 'we'

Let me change for the better, no matter the strife

Because I am the drum major, now and for life

Amen.

Prayer for the month of August

The Marching Band Prayer

As I lace up my shoes, and button my spatz,
may each move of my foot be perfectly in step.
As I slip on my gloves, and put my mouthpiece in place,
let each note be a perfect and not squeek back in my face.
As I zip up my jacket, and put in my plume,
let me look perfect, and sound in tune.
As we step into block, and go to parade rest,
let the lights shine bright on us, 'cus we're the best of the best.
Let each movement match, and each song come together.
Let us all move as one, and not loose any feathers.
Let us complete our performance with standing ovation.
For we are the band, and we're representing a nation.
From the snap in our turn,
to the hearts beating in our chests.
My god bless each piece of our group,
as we take this first step...

And we start with the LEFT!
